Scarification
Scarification is completed
with a powerful machine that removes the thatch layer and debris - this
is crucial for healthy sward. I use the latest pedestrian machines, that
have bladed drums that revolve at very high speed to drag out the thatch
layer from the lawn.
You may think you
have a good lawn raker capable of doing this, however Scarification should
not be confused with lawn raking. Using a small DIY electric spring bladed
machine can cause more damage than good, tearing salons and removing little
thatch. Regular deep thatch removal will keep your lawn looking its best.
Feeding of the lawn
should not be continued over the top of a thatch layer, as this can lead
to the plant taking in the feed via the leaf rather than the roots. If
you have a lawn that seems very spongy, then it may be a feed problem
possibly casused by overfeeding with the wrong feed.
If you think that
you may have a thatch problem, that may require scarification, please
